Girls Swimming

Swimmer of the Year:

Mary Jordan Higgins - Cincinnati Country Day

Mary, known as "MJ," is a three-time MVC champion where she has finished in first place in eight events in the last three years.  "MJ" was also the MVC Swimmer of the Year in 2007.  The junior is a two-time District qualifier, and this year she qualified in four events.  She was also a State qualifier in the 500 freestyle this season where she finished in fifteenth place.  Mary Jordan is an Honors student where she carries a 3.5 GPA and is the Secretary and Treasurer of her class.

Coach of the Year:

Marshall Adams - Cincinnati Country Day

Coach Adams has coached swimming at Cincinnati Country Day for 25 years.  He has had the privilege and honor to coach numerous All-League, All-District, All-State, and even All-American swimmers over the years.  Coach Adams has been named the MVC Coach of the Year for either boys' or girls' swimming every year the Miami Valley Conference has had a league swim meet.  Marshall swam for Springfield College in Massachusetts.  He is the author of numerous swimming articles that have been published in Swimming Technique, American Swimming, Australian Swimming, and the American Swimming Coaches Association Newsletter.  "Marshall has a tremendous love and passion for the sport of swimming, and he is a wonderful teacher and promoter of the sport," said Greg Ross, Assistant Director of Athletics at Cincinnati Country Day

Boys Swimming

       Swimmer of the Year:

Isaac Guttman - Cincinnati Country Day

Isaac, a sophomore, is a two-time MVC champion where he has finished in first place in six events the last two years.  He is a two-time District qualifier, and this year he qualified in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.  This is a great accomplishment considering there is only one division for boys' swimming in Ohio.  Isaac is a High Honors student where he carries a 4.1 GPA.  Isaac also serves as the Vice President of his class.

Coach of the Year:

Robin Murphy - Seven Hills

Robin has coached swimming at Seven Hills for three years, and through her enthusiasm and dedication, she has built an outstanding swimming program.  This year, twenty-five student-athletes were members of the swim team, and it is the first time that Seven Hills has captured a league swimming title.  It was under Robin's leadership that this group was able to grow and come together as a cohesive, successful team.

Wrestling

Wrestler of the Year:

Isaiah Bragg - Cincinnati Christian

Isaiah won 26 matches and had 15 pins this winter.  He was a District qualifier.  It was a big honor for the CCS program that the coaches voted Isaiah Wrestler of the Year, not only for the very strong league tournament he had, but for a very strong season.  Not only is Isaiah a good wrestler and a good teammate, he is the kind of guy who exemplifies everything we stand for at Cincinnati Christian.  He is excellent as a student, as well as excellent in character, integrity, and concern for others.

Coach of the Year:

Tim Sies - North College Hill

This was Tim's fourth year as part of the Trojan wrestling program and his third year as the head wrestling coach.  In the three years that Tim has been the head coach, the Trojans went from a team that filled about half of the weight classes to a team that fills almost all the weight classes.  The result is that North College Hill won its first ever wrestling league championship - an amazing accomplishment when you consider that wrestling has been a sport at North College Hill since 1972.  Tim is married with one child, and he is the Vocal Music Director at the school.

Player of the Year (Gray Division)

Sarah Carroll - Cincinnati Christian

Sarah, a sophomore, was a member of the league's Gray Division championship team, leading the conference in scoring (19.4 ppg) and rebounding.  Sarah set a school record with 40 points against St. Bernard-Elmwood Place.  She was selected as a District 16 Coaches Association All-Star.  Sarah is a well-rounded athlete.  She was also the 2007 MVC Player of the Year in volleyball.

Player of the Year (Scarlet Division)

Kaci Kust - Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy

Kaci is a four-year varsity player, this year averaging 19.2 points per game.  She also shot 50 percent from the field, as well as averaged five rebounds, five steals, and three assists per game.  In her junior season, Kaci was named First Team All-League, First Team All-District, and Honorable Mention All-State.  This year, she earned First Team All-District and District Player of the Year honors.  She is only the third player in school history to score over 1000 career points.  Not only does Kaci excel on the basketball floor, but she excels in the classroom as well, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Coach of the Year (Gray Division)

Ken Meibers - Lockland

Coach Meibers just finished his fourth season at the helm of the girls' basketball program at Lockland, leading the Lady Panthers to their first back-to-back winning seasons in ten years.  He has racked up over 300 victories coaching basketball at various levels.  He has been named Coach of the Year in cross country, track, and basketball more than twenty-five times on the varsity level.  Coach Meibers is a former All-American at Union College, Kentucky, (1968), and is a member of the Milford High School Hall of Fame, the Colerain High School Hall of Fame, and the Union College Hall of Fame.

Coach of the Year (Scarlet Division)

Lisa Elam - Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy

Coach Elam just completed her first year as the head varsity coach after serving as the varsity assistant and head reserve coach for the past six years.  She helped to lead the women's basketball team to a perfect 20-0 regular season, the first in basketball history at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, and a Sectional title.  Lisa is a graduate of Cincinnati Christian University where she was a First Team All-American.  She teaches eighth grade Science at CHCA Middle School, where she also serves as the Science Department Chair.

Player of the Year (Gray Division)

Nate Brusman - Cincinnati Christian

Nate led the city in scoring for most of the season, even as his opponents concentrated their defense on containing him.  He averaged 20.9 points per game.  Nate, however, is the ultimate team player.  His 4.6 assists per game were among the leaders in the city, along with a tremendous 85 percent shooting percentage from the foul line.

Player of the Year (Scarlet Division)

Drew Kohn - Seven Hills

Drew has become one of the most consistent big game players in our league.  Drew led the city in scoring with a 21.5 ppg average.  He works tirelessly on his game long after practice is over.  He is the all-time leading scorer (with a present point total of 1331) in Seven Hills history.  In addition to Player of the Year honors in the MVC, Drew was selected the Player of the Year in Division IV by the District 16 Coaches and the Associated Press voters.  But more importantly, his team's record has improved each year, culminating with a senior season of 19-1.  He has also helped his team win back-to-back MVC Scarlet Division championships.

Coach of the Year (Gray Division)

Paul Andrews - Lockland

Coach Andrews has coached over thirty years of varsity basketball at Taft, Woodward, Princeton, and Lockland, recording 365 wins along the way.  This year, his third season at Lockland, Paul led the Panthers to another 20-win season and MVC and Sectional titles.  Paul is a Union College, Kentucky, Hall of Famer.

Coach of the Year (Scarlet Division)

Willie Hill - Seven Hills

Coach Hill just completed his fourth year as head varsity coach, leading the Stingers to their second consecutive Miami Valley Conference title.  His squad's 19-1 record is the best ever regular season for Seven Hills varsity boys' basketball.  Coach Hill continues to develop a very solid and respected boys' program.  He loves coaching and is one of the school's most dedicated and hardest-working coaches.  Coach Hill has a wonderful wife, Janet, and three sons, Alexander, Miles, and Brice.
